About
Who am I?
I’m a 28 year old physical therapist living and working in the city of Antwerp.
I like french style, mid century design, fashion icons, rock climbing, crass humour, fries, beer, loud music, books, plants, knitting and life in the city.
I also have a strong interest in sustainability, ethics, feminism, personal growth and conscious consumerism. This blog is where I want to document my journey, piecing together a lifestyle that is a bit kinder to mother earth, while leaving room for all the fun and frivolous things I enjoy. I might call it idealistic urban hedonism, if only that didn’t make me sound so awfully pretentious (I’m fun at parties I promise).
What is this blog about?
The name “Melanophilia” originated from a time where I wore mostly black and white and wanted to be a “FasHiOn bLoGgER”. I pieced together a term that would mean “a love for the colour black” in Latin, and that was that. I’ve since become a more colourful person literally and figuratively, but the name still resonates and I just didn’t want to give it up. I’m now focused on finding out what might be “the new black” for me. Is it going green?
After a complete style slump, I’ve committed to only purchasing fashion sustainably, and am eager to write about my process.
Additionally, I like writing about sustainable lifestyle, in all its forms. Because I believe sustainable living does NOT equate missing out.
Expect wordy slow blogging, no filler content for consistency’s sake. I’ll write when I have something to share (and people who know me IRL will know I tend to be chatty when I’m excited about something). Also, I suck at photos, so this is very much a blog in the old sense of the word: a spontaneous collection of personal thoughts and stories.
Most of all, this is a learning process! I’m no mother Theresa, no minimalist and definitely no ascetic. I’m just trying to figure it all out as I go. I’m always open to tips, general conversation, a pat on the back or a kick in the bum. Feel free to drop me a comment or e-mail me at melanophilia@gmail.com.
